Neuro-oncologist Dr. Walter Taal and nurse specialist Sarah van Dijk from the neurology department of Erasmus MC received a check for 250,000 euros on October 30, 2020. The money will go to research into the genetic disorder neurofibromatosis type 1.

'With the amount we make the important TRAIN-study possible. In it, we are investigating for the first time whether the drug trametinib can shrink tumors located along the nerves (plexiform neurofibromas) in adults with neurofibromatosis type 1, 'says Walter Taal. This is expected to lead to less pain and neurological deficit. Walter Taal is supported by Sarah van Dijk, who fulfills a unique role in the world as a nurse specialist for neurofibromatosis type 1.

The researchers received the check from board member Saskia Dekker-Tieleman and chairman Hubert van Wensen of the Neurofibromatosis Foundation. The check was made possible by Ladies' Circle Netherlands, who have worked for the Neurofibromatose Foundation for the past two years.
